Every village in Travian Kingdoms has a fixed layout of resource fields. While all villages contain Woodcutters, Clay Pits, Iron Mines, and Croplands, the number of each resource field varies from village to village.
Different layouts are suited to different strategies. Choosing the right village when settling or conquering can have a significant impact on your empire's long-term development.
Note: There is no single "best" resource field layout. The ideal choice depends on your playstyle and the role you want the village to fulfill.

A village layout describes the number of each type of resource field. The numbers are always listed in the following order:
Woodcutters – Clay Pits – Iron Mines – Croplands
For example, a 4-4-4-6 village contains:
4 Woodcutters
4 Clay Pits
4 Iron Mines
6 Croplands
Different layouts are commonly referred to by these numbers.
Village Type | Example layout | Description |
Balanced village | 4-4-4-6 | Produces all resources evenly. This is the standard layout of every starting village. |
Resource-focused village | 5-x-x-6 | Provides increased production of one basic resource (Wood, Clay, or Iron). |
Crop-focused village | x-x-x-7 | Offers additional crop production while maintaining balanced production of the other resources. |
9-cropper | 3-3-3-9 | High crop production with moderate production of the other resources. |
15-cropper | 1-1-1-15 | The highest possible crop production, making it one of the most valuable village layouts. |
Balanced villages are reliable all-round villages and remain useful throughout the game.
Resource-focused villages are useful if your empire regularly lacks a specific resource or if you want to specialize a village.
Crop-focused villages are a popular choice for defensive players, who often train troops in multiple villages. They provide additional crop while maintaining good production of the other resources.
9-croppers are versatile villages that produce enough crop to support larger armies while still generating a reasonable amount of Wood, Clay, and Iron.
15-croppers are commonly used as main villages for large offensive armies. Because they produce very little Wood, Clay, and Iron, they often rely on resources from other villages. Many players also use the NPC Merchant to redistribute resources while developing them.
Because only a limited number of 15-croppers exist on each game world, they are among the most valuable settlement locations. Their low production of Wood, Clay, and Iron means they usually require support from other villages while being developed.
A village's resource field layout is only one part of its potential. Nearby oases can further increase resource production.
Crop oases are especially valuable for villages with seven, nine, or fifteen Croplands. A 15-cropper with the maximum 150% crop oasis bonus can produce enormous amounts of crop, making it one of the most desirable village locations on a game world.
For more information about oasis bonuses, see Oases.

9-croppers are marked with one wheat icon.
15-croppers are marked with two wheat icons.
This makes it easy to identify potential settlement targets without inspecting every village individually.
