Having troops is great, but that's just a first step, the next is to use them to take advantage.
Below you'll find a list of the different ways in which troops can act.
Troops may be sent to other villages as reinforcements. Reinforcements are usually intended to help defend someone from an attack, but this is not always the case. You can reinforce other players as long as they are neither in beginner’s protection nor banned. |
In order to reinforce someone you need troops and a target village/city that can be chosen via the map, the statistics, or by entering the village name or coordinates of the village you want to defend in the Rally Point.
Troops that have been sent to reinforce another village will stay there until they die in battle, starve, are recalled by the owner, or are sent back by the player you are defending.
Troops that are reinforcing other villages can be seen in the “Stationed” tab of the Rally Point. Here, you can see which villages your troops are reinforcing and the crop upkeep of the troops. Also, you have the option to withdraw your troops from this screen.
Reinforcement is a military tactic that can be used in a number of ways:
Offensively:
- A way of preventing an opponent from using its crops and preventing upgrades of village/city (but remember that reinforcements will starve first)
- A way to save your crops by letting other players feed your troops
- Make it harder for your opponents to loot by reinforcing the villages they raid
Defensively:
- Help a village under attack to defend itself
- A way to protect valuable or vulnerable troops
- Gathering the troops of several players for a kingdom defensive operation.
Some additional information about reinforcements:
- There is no time limit, and a reinforcement can be long-term.
- Reinforcements from a village/city that are deleted, conquered, or destroyed will disappear from the village/city they are reinforcing
- Reinforced troops are fed by the village where they are stationed
How to send reinforcements
In the Map view, click on the village you wish to reinforce and select "Send troops".
Next, enter the number of troops you wish to send and select "Reinforcement" as the type of attack.
Finally, click “Send” and the troop(s) will be sent.
Once they have reached the target village, the troops will defend it against all attacks. The player receiving reinforcements cannot use them in any other way.
Scouts are military units used to gather information about villages. You may use scouts in two ways: offensively or defensively. Each tribe has its own scouting unit: Equites Legati (Romans), Scout (Teutons), and Pathfinder (Gauls). |
Scouts have no attack powers but can be sent to a village/city to see what troops are stationed there, and what resources or defensive structures are present.
To successfully scout a village/city, you must send scouts only.
Scouts can be made stronger by upgrading them in the Smithy, however any upgrades will not affect their scouting ability.
A player who is scouted on is not warned. If your scouts are not detected by the defender, he won't know he's been scouted. On the other hand, if your scouts are detected or killed, the defender will know that you have sent scouts to his village.
Scouts are also useful for defence. When your village/city is spotted by an enemy player, you can prevent it from being scouted, provided you have enough scouts stationed there. For example: you have 2000 scouts in a village. A player sends 1000 scouts to your village. Since your village has a higher defensive scouting strength than the attacker, you'll have a chance of killing these attacking scouts.
If none of the attacker's scouts survive, you will prevent any information from being returned. The defensive power of your scout can be modified with upgrades in the Smithy, by your village/city's wall and the city’s Water Ditch.
How to send Scouts
In the Map view, click on the village you wish to scout. Select "Send troops". Then under “Choose your troops”, enter the number of scouts you wish to send. When selecting only scout units, "Scouting" is the default type of attack.
Click “Continue” and you will be asked to select which type of scouting you wish to perform - “Scout resources and troops” or “Scout defences and troops”. For the scouting to work, only scouts can be sent.
The difference between the two types of scouting:
- Scout resources and troops: shows how many resources the village is holding, the number of resources protected by the Cranny (if a Cranny is built), and the number of troops present in the village (including reinforcements).
- Scout defences and troops: shows which defensive buildings the village has built and the number of troops present in the village (including reinforcements). Defensive buildings include: Residence/Palace, Rally Point, and walls.
Once you have chosen which type of scouting you wish to perform, click “Send” and the scout(s) will be sent.
You can raid other players as long as they are not in beginner’s protection or banned. In order to raid another player, you will need troops and a target. A target can be chosen by using the map, the statistics tab or by entering the name or coordinates of the village/city you want to raid in the Rally Point. |
Unlike normal attacks, which are carried out until one of the two armies is annihilated, raids can inflict partial damage on both armies, depending on the strength of the troops involved. The purpose of a raid is to steal resources.
Troops clash until the sum of losses on both sides is just over 100%. This allows defending troops to kill the entire attacking force if they are sufficiently powerful. The attacker can steal resources and see the defence if at least one of the attacking units survives the raid,
NOTE: Treasures can’t be stolen by a raid.
A raid is a hit-and-run attack, so war engines, such as catapults and rams, don't have the time to be used. It is also impossible to steal treasures or lower loyalty with a raid.
Trappers will capture raiders.
How to send a raid
In the Map view, click on the village you wish to raid. Select "Send troops". Next enter the number of troops you wish to send and select "Attack: Raid". Click “Continue”.
Then click “Send” and the troop(s) will be sent.
The report will give you the results of your raid.
You can attack other players as long as they are not in beginner’s protection or banned. A target village/city can be chosen using the map, the statistics, or by entering the village/city name or coordinates of the village you want to defend in the Rally Point. |
Attack vs Raid
The difference between a normal attack and a raid is that a normal battle will be fought until one of the armies is dead. Raids will only do partial damage to both armies and in almost every case the attacker will have at least 1 surviving soldier.
An attack is meant to destroy the target.
This offensive mode should be limited to targets that are meant to be destroyed. Raiding by attacking does not reduce the bounty. An attack can inflict more damage to both attacker and defender than a raid.
Certain actions can only happen by a successful attack:
Destroying Buildings and walls: Catapults and Rams will only work in attack or siege mode.
Conquering: Chiefs/Senators/Chieftains work only during attacks or sieges.
Releasing trapped troops: Troops that are trapped by a Gaul’s Trapper can only be released by an attack. If the defender has traps, some attackers may be trapped and then released immediately if the attack is successful.
Attacking with multiple waves: If you want to send more than one attack (usually done with catapults), you can open multiple tabs in the rally point. However, there is a limit in Travian: Kingdoms to the number of waves you can send per second depending on the travel time:
- < 3h: 1 wave
- 3-6h: 2 waves
- 6-12h: 3 waves
- > 12h: 4 waves
How to send an attack
In the Map view, click on the village you wish to reinforce and select "Send troops".
Next, enter the number of troops you wish to send and select "Attack" as a type of attack.
Then click “Send” and the troop(s) will be sent.
The report will give you the results of your attack.
Siège is a special attack mode. You can attack other players as long as they are not in beginner’s protection or banned. In order to attack a player using the siege option, you need ram, troops and a target. A target may be chosen using the map, the statistics button or by entering the name or coordinates of the village/city you want to attack in the Rally Point. |
The siege mode allows for an additional bonus of 33% on attacking strength. This bonus gives Teutons the possibility of a total extra bonus of 60% which includes the Brewery. On top of that is the hero bonus of 20%, which adds up to a nice bonus of 1.92. For Gauls and Romans, too, the siege mode in combination with the hero bonus considerably increases the attacking strength of offensive armies.
This bonus can be extremely effective, particularly against Wonders of the World, stationary defensive armies and villages within a range of two to four hours. The added travelling time is definitely worth the high attack bonus.
The only “disadvantage” here is the doubled travelling time of the offensive army and that players have to send at least 1,000 units and at least one ram among them.
