Expansion slots

What are Expansion slots?

Expansion slots determine how many new settlements (villages or cities) can be founded or conquered from a village or city. Each village has its own set of expansion slots that become available through the Palace or Residence.

  • A Palace offers 3 expansion slots (levels 10, 15, and 20)
  • A Residence offers 2 expansion slots (levels 10 and 20)

You can build either a Palace or a Residence in a village—not both. A Palace can only exist once in your entire account.

Each slot allows you to either train three settlers (to found a village) or to train one administrator (to conquer a village).

You can only use one function per slot. If you train settlers at level 10, you can’t use that same slot to train an administrator later.

You can view all used and available expansion slots directly in the Palace or Residence interface. Each slot shows:

  • Whether it's unlocked (based on building level)
  • Whether it's used or free
  • Which village (if any) was founded or conquered using the slot

Slot persistence after use

Once a slot is used to found or conquer a village, it stays occupied, even if the Residence or Palace is destroyed.

If you conquer a village, any expansion slots that were already used in that village remain occupied. You do not gain additional free slots by taking control of a conquered village.

The only way to free up an occupied slot is to destroy or conquer the village that was founded or conquered using that slot.

Expert Tip: Reusing the Palace

Even though you can only have one active Palace at a time, you can use this mechanic to train more administrator units across different villages:

  • Build a Palace in village A and train 3 administrators at levels 10, 15, and 20
  • Demolish the Palace
  • Build a new Palace in village B and train 3 more administrators

This gives you access to six administrators in total, trained from two locations.

However, keep in mind:

  • This does not increase your available expansion slots
  • You still need a free slot in the village that will conquer the target
  • Loyalty can be reduced to 0, but without an available slot, the village cannot be taken

This method is useful for reducing loyalty with multiple administrators, but conquest itself still depends on the number of free expansion slots in the attacking village.
