The role of the vice-king
In Travian Kingdoms, the vice-king is the second-highest leadership role in a kingdom. It is only available after a kingdom union has been formed. The vice-king supports the king in developing, protecting, and managing the kingdom, with privileges greater than those of a duke but slightly fewer than those of the king.
How to become a vice-king
A vice-king position cannot be chosen at the start of the game. You can become vice-king in two ways:
|
Duties and powers of a vice-king
Vice-kings share many responsibilities with the king, focusing on administration, expansion, and protection of the kingdom.
✅ Can do:
- Invite and remove governors (standard influence-based invitations only)
- Promote and demote dukes
- Activate treasuries to collect tributes from governors and dukes
- Abdicate via the Embassy
❌ Can't do:
- Invite governors via menhir relocation
- Manage diplomacy
- Kick or demote the king
- Crown themselves king (except when replacing an inactive or abdicating king)
- Delete the avatar manually
Special rules for vice-kings
- No vacation mode: Vice-kings cannot activate vacation mode because their role is vital for kingdom management.
- Replacing the king:
- If the king abdicates or becomes inactive, the vice-king automatically becomes king.
- If the vice-king abdicates, they become a duke if a slot is available, otherwise they become a governor.
- When abdicating, all fealty levels and bonuses are disabled for the rest of the game world.
- Inactivity: If a vice-king becomes inactive, they are directly demoted to governor (skipping duke). The next day, they will leave the kingdom automatically.
- Robber hideouts: Vice-kings do not get robber hideouts. This is balanced by their ability to collect tribute funds directly.
Summary
The vice-king is a leadership role that bridges the gap between king and duke. They are essential for supporting the king, managing tributes, and ensuring smooth kingdom operations. However, their powers are limited compared to the king, and they carry important responsibilities that require continuous activity.
